MARQUETTE, MI — Republican gubernatorial candidate Tom Leonard kicked off a multi-day visit to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula yesterday focused on listening to local concerns, discussing U.P. priorities, and sharing a vision for making Michigan a growth state again.
The tour includes planned stops in Marquette, Houghton, Iron Mountain, Menominee, Escanaba and St. Ignace. The campaign has scheduled meetings this week with small business owners, local educators, law enforcement, tribal leaders, healthcare professionals, and UP residents from all walks of life.
“The people of the U.P. embody the grit, independence, and work ethic that made Michigan great in the first place. ,” said Leonard. “That spirit of togetherness is exactly what we need to start rebuilding this state from the ground up. I appreciate the conversations I’ve had with the people in the U.P. and I promise to deliver them a state government that listens, learns, and leads with respect.”
The tour also includes town hall-style conversations and visits to local landmarks, including small-town main streets, regional hospitals, community colleges, and historic sites.
“This campaign is about restoring trust and showing up,” Leonard said. “We’ll take what we’ve heard in the U.P. and make it part of our Citizen’s Agenda for State Government, because every region in this state deserves a seat at the table.”
