FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
AUGUST 13, 2025
DEWITT, MI — Republican gubernatorial candidate and former Michigan House Speaker, Tom Leonard, will spend two days in the Upper Peninsula this week, meeting with residents, supporting local events, and listening to community concerns.
Leonard will attend the Upper Peninsula State Fair in Escanaba on Thursday, August 14, and Friday, August 15, visiting with fairgoers, local leaders, and small business owners. He will host a Meet and Greet on the fairgrounds from 4:00 -5:30pm on Thursday.
In addition to attending the fair, Leonard will travel to Iron River on Thursday morning to visit the Jasmine Heights RC Park, a popular local gathering spot for hobbyists and families. The stop will give Leonard the opportunity to see firsthand the community spirit that fuels small-town Michigan and to highlight the importance of supporting recreational opportunities that bring people together.
“I’ve always believed that good leaders listen first,” Leonard said. “The Upper Peninsula represents the very best of Michigan’s work ethic, values, and community pride. I’m looking forward to connecting with folks in Escanaba and Iron River to hear directly about the opportunities and challenges they see for our state.”
Leonard’s return visit to the Upper Peninsula is part of his ongoing Citizen’s Agenda for State Government, focused on engaging with communities in every corner of the state ahead of the 2026 gubernatorial primary.
