DEWITT, MI — Today, State Board of Education member Tom McMillin announced his endorsement of Tom Leonard for Governor of Michigan, citing Leonard’s record of fighting for parents’ rights, raising academic standards, and restoring accountability in K-12 education.
“Tom Leonard is the conservative leader Michigan families can trust,” McMillin said. “He understands that parents, not Lansing bureaucrats, are the primary decision-makers in their children’s education. Tom will insist on transparency, protect students from failing systems, and demand real results in reading, math, and the skills needed in today’s economy. I’m proud to endorse him for governor.”
Leonard thanked McMillin for his support and praised his consistent advocacy on behalf of students and parents across the state.
“Tom McMillin has been a fearless voice for accountability and parental involvement,” said Leonard.
“Together, we will put students first, restore excellence to Michigan’s classrooms, and ensure every child has access to a safe, high-quality education that prepares them for life.”
McMillin, a former state representative and longtime advocate for educational excellence and limited government, said Leonard’s leadership is needed to deliver durable reforms. “Tom has the backbone to take on entrenched interests and the vision to empower parents and teachers. Michigan’s students need someone like that fighting for them,” McMillin said.
Leonard added that his education agenda will be centered on measurable outcomes, transparency, and empowering parents to make decisions for their children.
“Michigan may be ranked in the bottom ten today, but with hard work and real leadership, we’ll give our kids the future they deserve,” Leonard said. “We’ll reward excellence, fix what’s broken, and make sure every decision in Lansing answers one question: Does this put students first?”
